Updates not installing
« on: 2012 December 08 09:20:33 »
I have 19, yes, 19 updates to install. I haven't had a chance to use PI for months and am trying to make a little progress now but cannot get the updates to install on either my MacBook Pro or my desktop PC. They download fine and it tells me they will be updated after a restart, but then I get the notice that I have 19 updates each time I start PI. Same thing on both platforms.

Any ideas?

So, no takers on this question? It's obviously a Mac thing, because I was able to get the PC version to update just fine. Maybe a Mountain Lion OS problem.

In your original mail, you mentioned it failed also for your desktop PC. How did you fix that?
Sorry, I cannot help with MaxOS.

Georg,
Thanks for the reply. I am not 100% sure, but I did two things, first, because there were so many updates to install, I installed them a few at a time. I limited the major updates, like core updates, by themselves. I also changed a setting in a Windows pop up asking about permissions. I believe it had more to do with the permissions than anything else.

As to the Mac, I don't have anything enabled to prevent the updates. They download just fine, but the pop up that tells me they will install when I restart PI, nothing happens. At this point, it's not a major problem, I am using the program and starting to get a good feel for it.

Was that on WinXP? You do know that WinXP is not supported any longer....

do you have the very latest version of PI installed? that can not be installed via updates, you have to download it from the distribution server.

Rob,
I will check and see if that will correct the problem. I did try installing minor updates by unchecking the major ones and that didn't work either.

Georg,
Yes, on my PC it is using XP64 and believe me, I am well aware of the issues surrounding updates with that OS. I am in the process of researching components to build a new processing machine. Because of my schedule, I haven't processed a lot of images over the last year or two, so it hasn't been an issue. Lots of things won't work with XP64, there just aren't any drivers or updates that make it compatible.

Thanks for the replies.

Hi,
I had what sounds like the same problem with Windows 7. On PI startup I would be notified of updates. I select to download them which seems to work, then on restart the updates fail and whenever I restart PI, it all starts over again.

In the end, it turned out to be a permissions thing on the default download folder. I set the download folder to another location and it all started working.

Thanks Eddie. I resolved the problem for the Mac by uninstalling the core version I had, which was current, and reinstalling from scratch. It is all working well now. I am in the process of installing the newest version. 1.8.
