Aircraft and sat trail removal - how?
« on: 2014 November 05 12:19:03 »
Hi - Is there any way of removing line artifacts from sub frames other than with the clone tool. Astroart 5 has a line removal tool whereby you simply click on each end of the line to remove it (wider tracks require more applications).
I'm still newish to PI and haven't found anything that will operate like that - yet.
Many thanks for looking

PI does not have this, but you could probably construct a pixel math expression to replace lines.

the "right" way to do this is to collect enough sub exposures such that you can reject the bad pixels during integration…

Thanks Rob,
Found this: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/57910417/Video08_PixelMath_IIa_english.wmv

This covers using PixelMath to remove lines - to me it seems quite convoluted (need to watch it a few more times) but does the job

Problem with this image is that I don't get it that clear that low down often and I need all the subs I can of the Helix...

I have used the d2line function in PixelMath a couple of times to clobber satellite trails that the rejection algorithm wouldn't clean up.  I changed the values along the path in the offending sub to make them all 1.0 and so far from the average value that rejection removed them easily.

Cheers,
Rick.
