New user, question about documentation
« on: 2012 May 01 11:43:49 »
Hello,
my name is Vincent, I'm french and I'm a new user of this wonderful software.

As I understand, to have the documentation about pixinsight I have to download some pidoc files and use the script documentation compiler to make the documentation files.
But I don't find where I can download this pidocs files can you help ma please?

An another question, I like new technologies but I also like the paper, so is there a printable version of pixinsight documentation?

Thank you in advance
And excuse me if this questions have been already asked but I don't find it with the search tool.

Vincent

Hi Vincent,

AFAIK the most of the Processes are explained with built in documentation that can also be printed. For the moment there is no "complete" printable version that explains from A to Z.
Searching the forum you will also find a lot of nice tutorials; especially the ones Harry Page (http://www.harrysastroshed.com/pixinsighthome.html) has created are really useful to new and experimented users!
In my screenshot you can see where to "activate" the nice documentation  O0

If you prefer your favorite browser, try http://pixinsight.com/doc/ . It has the same contents as the documentation installed with PI. This one is old, but also useful sometimes http://blog.deepskycolors.com/PixInsight/PI-OURG_Index.html. Also try the links you find on http://pixinsight.com/ under Resources.

Vincent, welcome to the group! I think you will really love PixInsight.

When the PI guys do documentation, they really DO IT right. Take a look at this full documentation of the very important ImageIntegration process: http://pixinsight.com/doc/tools/ImageIntegration/ImageIntegration.html

Harry's excellent videos are the place that a lot of us first got our bearings. I'd also highly recommend Vicent (without the first 'n'!) Peris' workflow tutorial (in 2 parts) on Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL67AB2FC8F37C35B1&feature=plcp

Those videos really helped me see the logic in the processing steps and made me a much better processor.

Hello,
thank georg and jlake, that will help me a lot.  ^-^Now I have to read all of that documentation and try what I learn on my images.
I probably come again soon to ask you some newbie questions. ;)
Thank you again

Salut Vincent  ;)

Cordialement
vincent
