Autosave functionality
« on: 2012 April 02 08:38:13 »
It was my understanding PI has a built in autosave functionality.  I checked my preferences and it's set to save every 30 seconds.  Yesterday, my PC locked up while I was working in another application and PI was minimized.  I had not saved the work I had done in PI to that point, but PI was idle for many hours before this incident.

After I rebooted my PC I assumed the next time I restarted PI it would ask to recover my crashed session.  But it did not.  Since this feature doesn't seems to be documented via the preferences page, do I need to perform some type of manual recovery that I am not aware of?  Do I simply have a misunderstanding of this feature?

Thanks, Craig

Hi Craig,

There is no autosave functionality to protect your images. There is a PSM AutoSave feature (enabled by default with a period of 30 seconds) which makes safe copies of all the process icons defined in PixInsight at regular intervals. PSM AutoSave is an asynchronous background routine; you don't have to make anything special to run it. In the event of a crash, you can recover the latest saved version of your icons from the system temporary folder.

Thanks Juan, I was afraid of that.  I'll be diligent about saving everything to process icons from now on so I can easily get back to my current state.
