Problem running Keller video in OS X Mavericks
« on: 2014 May 04 11:35:14 »
I purchased the online version of PixInsight-I of the Keller tutorial series. When I tried to view it, the video started and after a few seconds it quit and started buffering. It never stops buffering. Then I saw the small print that it requires Internet Explorer (I have Chrome and Firefox at hand). Then I discovered that Internet Explorer doesn't run on recent versions of OS X without the aid of a virtual PC or CrossOver. Suddenly the cost of the video has doubled. My Flash player is updated and enabled. Any help here?

I hope I can get this sorted out quickly, because I was planning taking a quick look at series I and then taking advantage of the $30 special offer on the 3rd series.

I watched both PI-I and PI-II using Firefox on Mavericks. Never heard of an IE requirement. Just tested again to be sure. No problem. I'm using Firefox 29 and latest Flash

I would venture to guess it's a problem at your end.

Peter Proulx says there should be no problem with Firefox or Chrome, so that does help to narrow it down. It could well be a problem at my end, because I don't have the fastest internet connection. It's DSL. Still, I have seen no problems like this with other PI tutorials or other videos of any sort.

I tried it again a few more times and I think I have reproduced what you are experiencing. Once buffering started I clicked the refresh button and then the video played normally. I'm inclined to blame Flash.

That worked for me, too. I can live with it. I spent some time looking for a refresh button until I realized you meant the refresh on the browser. Thanks to all. It's nice to know that ip4ap also has responsive support.

I'm having the same problem with Windows 7 and Firefox with the part 3 series.  Never had this problem with part 2 (I have the dvd for part1)
However, I just selected a random video from part 2 and the problem has appeared there as well, so something has changed.

What version of Firefox and what version of Flash? For me, both have had updates since I last viewed these videos and either could be suspect. I am currently at Firefox 29 and Flash 13.0.0.206 (I would guess the Flash version will be slightly different between Windows and OS X). Given history I still would think Flash.

Geoff, does the browser refresh workaround work for you?

I found the behavior was consistent in Safari, Chrome, and Firefox. My Flash was newly updated (yesterday) before I began trying to view the videos.

Chrome Version 34.0.1847.131
Firefox 28.0
Safari Version 7.0.2 (9537.74.9)

I'm using Firefox 29 and flash 13.0.0.206.  the browser refresh workaround works, but sometimes needs two attempts.
