Texts in PixInsight Tip Tool box gets cut off

I finally built a bleeding edge computer. 

It contains the following main components:

Asus Rampage IV Gene Motherboard
I7-3820 LGA2011 CPU
16 GB RAM

For those who want or plan to build a computer with I7 LGA2011 CPU, be aware that the CPU does NOT come with heat skin/fan. That's why it took me some time to find a good third party fan. It looks like Intel is not planning on including heat sink/fan with LGA 2011 CPU. There are lots of good fans out there but I didn't want a monster fan that over clockers use. I use Cooler Master 212 Evo or 212 Plus. It works well. The idle temperature is 28 degrees C and when running 30 subs (3032 x 2016) of Star Alignment, the temperature rose to 45 degrees C. I also noticed all 8 cores (Quad plus Hyper Thread) were running at 100% capacity. The maximum RAM usage was only 3 GB.

I pretty much had to buy all parts to build the computer. I couldn't use parts from old computer because they were out of date, power supply was insufficient (350W) and the case was not good for new hot CPU. I got Antec CP-1000 1 KW PSU, Antec DF-85 gaming case with 7 120mm fans plus 2 CPU fans, one PSU fan and one video card fan totaling 11 fans. Believe it or not, the fans are quieter because they are much larger than in my old case and spins at lower speed. The case looks cool because it has see through side panel and has red LEDs all over so the case glows red.

Finally no more waiting too long for Star Alignment, Image Integration, HDR Multiscale Transform and starting PixInsight. Hopefully the new computer will last at least 10 years like my old computer.

maybe you can run the Benchmark_M74_parallel.psm available at http://pixinsight.com/forum/index.php?topic=1052.msg10478#msg10478 . Your's could very well be the fastes machine tested so far...

I am not familiar with PSM files. Can you give instructions on how to run PSM files? I looked at the link but it does not look intuitive to me.

• Download the files
• Load the image file
• Load the process icon file
• Drag/drop the process icon on the image

I did the first two steps. Nothing happens when I load Benchmark_M74_parallel.psm. But when I load Benchmark_M74.psm, I get error messages.

This is how I load the process icon file: Process->Process Icons->Load Process Icons and I selected one or the other PSM. Is that correct?

The error messages for Benchmark_M74.psm were one error message box followed by another:

Deconvolution
HDRMultiScaleTransform
ATrousWaveletTransform

But for Benchmark_M74_parallel.psm, nothing happens. I see this: "0 icons loaded".

The RGB.fit looks like either M74 or M101.

I figured it out.

8.83 seconds.

My hard drive is 7200RPM instead of 10000RPM.

I did the benchmark from my old computer: 75 seconds!!!!!!

Old Computer (about 10 years old):

Windows 7 32 bit
Pentium 4 Hyperthread 3GHz single core
2GB RAM

What a big difference between my old and new computers.

I'm glad I didn't send you of on a wild goose chase Peter

The difficulty I had with psm file is when I loaded it, the icon was nowhere to be found on the screen and noticed a scroll bar at the bottom so I moved the scroll bar and I found the psm icon at the very right side of the screen.

It's going to be confusing to others who's never seen PSM before so it might be better to fix it so the icon is loaded and easily displayed inside the viewable window instead of outside the window. The icon was outside of the window in both of my old and new computer using same 16x9 ViewSonic monitor.

Yeah, PSM files load icons in the location where they were saved. This is normally a good thing but not so much when a new user doesn't expect that and has a smaller monitor than the person who saved the PSM file.
