Very nice work to the dev team... Can we please have more?
« on: 2004 September 15 17:24:21 »
Hi all,

I'm quite impressed with PixInsight - I love the previews concept, the logging/saving, and just about all else with the tool. I've been a PhotoShop user since 1.0 (looong time ago) and this is the first tool that I've seen worth adding to my toolbox.

That said...

Any chance of getting some gaussian blur, unsharp mask and cloning features added? Have I just missed them?

Thanks,
Josh

Hi Josh

Thank you very much for you comments. I'm sure Juan will be very happy! :)

The gaussian blur, (real) USM, clone stamp and a lot of other processes are included only in the Standard Edition of PixInsight, that we hope to finish at the end of the year. It will be a comercial release, but we want to keep the price low to allow all of you the acces to it (a lot cheapear than Photoshop).

Right now, along other tools, the standard edition includes:
- Color Saturation adjustement
- Dynamic Background Extraction (makes a new image from sample points in the background, to build a pseudo-flat image for vignetting correction)
- Dynamic Alignement (registration of image)
- Image Integration (average & median, with rejection methods)
- Convolutions (user defineable kernells)
- Deconvolutions (regularizated Richardson Lucy and Van Cittern algorithms, along with others)
- SMI and PIP transforms
- DDP
etc.

We are working in other new tools, trying to make PixInsight as much powerfull and standalone as we can. BTW, I don't use Photoshop or any other software since a lot of months.
Regards,

Carlos Milovic F.

Carlos,

Thanks for the quick reply - I am a lurker on the APML list and checked out your recent posts there regarding the new processing techniques you are working on. I wish I knew enough to make a meaningful comment, other than the image is beautiful.

I am an astrophoto newbie on a budget (shooting with a manual guider on an old 8" Meade and an OM-1). That said, I used to do scanning and photoretouching for high end advertising and print applications and so I have a lot of experience with image processing and editing tools. I'm also a software developer and manager with over a decade of experience. The point of all this is that I'd love to get on your beta program...

Hi Josh

We are going to upload some tutorials in the next days, and one of them is how to use PixInsightLE v1.0.1 to apply a flat with film images, using my new method. I hope this will make things easier to all of the users, and make them obtain better results.
(Thanks for the comment about my image)

Regarding the beta tester group, it is something that Juan has to decide. I think that he will contact you off-list and talk about that.

Carlos
