M81 and M82
« on: 2012 February 22 04:29:20 »
Hi

After seeing Manuel's magnum opus on here I was a bit dubious about posting this image, anyway:

Equipment WO FLT 110, Lodestar guiding, EQ6 mount, QSI 583wsg , Maxim DL, Astrodon  Ha LRGB filters

Lum = 8 hours 1 x 1
R = 3 hours 20 mins 2 x 2
G = 3 hours 20 mins 2 x 2
B = 3 hours 20 mins 2 x 2
Ha = 1 hour 30 mins 2 x 2

MaxinDL acquisition and calibration

Pixinsight processing, It is L HaRGB. Ha blended with the R as per Vicent's idea and Harry's video.
Last weekend we had two fantastic nights where I was imaging most of the night for two nights.

Great image! No idea why you'd be dubious about posting it. Don't fall for false modesty. Be proud of your work.

Hi Sander

Thanks for the positive feedback. Honestly I was slightly dubious about posting this as the other image is fantastic.

Let's put it this way. If you can't post that image then I should pack up and leave :)

Hi Julian.

A greate image. I dont understand why you should not post it.

I had the same thoughts as you, the images posted here are of a very high quality, could i post mine ? I did with an image of M42, the best i have managed to do with my equipment and image processing skills so far. Hoped to get some hints to improvments or critics to obviouse failures. Have not got any tips yet but maybe next time ;)  with an image of higher quality.

Hopefully there will be more pictures not beeing of "Picture of the Day" quality in the future with comments that can help other to improve.

Julian,

That's a very nice image, don't doubt about posting it.

Of course it can be improved. I see a bit noise in the chrominance, and M81 it's a bit overprocessed. I don't really like adding Ha to galaxies, it makes them look unnatural, they are a bit undersaturated except in the reds.

Keep on improving, I'm always trying it!

Regards,
Manuel.

Hi Manuel

Thanks for the positive comments.

Do you use Ha in an LRGB image at all?

Yes, but not on galaxies. I recommend using that time for capturing more L, or colors if needed.
