Fun with PixInsight Deconvolution
« on: 2012 February 14 16:12:27 »
I've just posted a short example of some recent fun I've been having with Deconvolution on a not-so-good Luminance image of M1.

Please take a look at www.drakevisual.com/deconvolution - I hope you find it useful.

Let me know if you have any comments or corrections, especially from the PI experts. I'm sure there are some improvements I can make.

Oh, that'll come in handy as I have an M1 to process at similar scale. Thanks!

Excellent! Reading Juan's extensive work and then checking out your tutorial boosted my understanding of Decon. several orders of magnitude.

Perhaps, or was it in 2011 at Steve Leshin's PixInsight talk? Steve showed some good Deconvolution results that piqued my interest.

That's a great tutorial, Sean. As you pointed out, critical to good results is to lower the Global Dark setting from default of 0.1. I find a value of 0.01 to 0.04 is required. One other point, I find using a Luminance Mask is a good idea as it insures the higher signal to noise areas are preferentially deconvolved while adding extra protection to the background low signal to noise areas.

Steve,

Thanks for the comments - as I said, it was your presentation at AIC that got me digging into Deconvolution. I could see that you were getting good results and was wondering why I wasn't! That's a good point about the Luminance Mask to protect the background. I'll update the tutorial and add that step later today.

Yours,

Sean
