PixInsight on Twitter & Facebook
« on: 2011 May 31 05:04:01 »
Hi all,

Pixinsight is from now on Facebook and Twitter. Microblog with us or just Keep in touch with our news. Find us with the string "PixInsight" on both platforms.

You only see the other "PixInsight" if you chose the "additional results" entry in the search drop box.
BTW: I would prefer to have ony one PI in Facebook - or one clearly aimed at hispanic, and one aimed at international users.

Got it, thanks Georg. There's a difference between a company FB page and a UG page. I created mine mostly as a placeholder just in case it would be needed in the future. I don't see a real need for it with this forum being the main comms channel and water cooler.

Hi all,

I created the PI facebook page and the Twitter profile to provide additional communications channels following the current trends about social networks ;). I agree with Nocturnal about the difference between a company FB page and a UG page. The FB PI page is aimed to be international, not only hispanic.

If you follow the forum it is needless to check the Facebook PI page and/or the Twitter PI profile. So don´t worry about it. We are going to post the relevant things on facebook and Twitter in addition to the forum. Some users don´t use the forum but use facebook or Twitter. :)

The forum only sends one message until you come back to check so it's real easy to skip an important message. I'm not on twitter but the FB page might be handy.

In my opinion, the role of FB and Twitter should be to direct traffic to pixinsight.com and to forum.pixinsight.com. I recommend not to create alternative discussion channels. PI already tried a lot of approaches like blogs, bug trackers, wiki's, magazines. Most of these did not work, mainly due to the fact that they would all consume bandwidth from the PTeam to be working properly. And apparently, this bandwitdh is limited.

Georg

PS: Please consider adding a Wikipedia entry for PI. It is mentioned on this page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Starbuck . Some competitors do have pages, e.g. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adobe_Photoshop

I recommend not to create alternative discussion channels.

The aim of the FB and TW sites is to replicate important announcements. Discussion channels are reserved to the forum.

PS: Please consider adding a Wikipedia entry for PI. It is mentioned on this page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Starbuck . Some competitors do have pages, e.g. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adobe_Photoshop

That's a good point Georg, we will think about it.

Javio,

on these kind of Sites; FB or TW, is there a possiblity to "add" the Group to the friends list ( I can only like  ???)?
Is it perhaps even possible to upload personal Astroimages to this PI group or not?

I think this would represent a very good publicity spot for people not knowing that PI exists --> Community growth....

First of all, I aplogize because I missed the last reply to this thread.

To post a picture in FB you just have to write a new topic attaching your image. You can do it in Twitter by writing to @PixInsight and clicking in the bottom left camera icon to attach the picture.

As far as PixInsight is a FB page and not a fisical person, the way to be linked to the page is just by liking it. In Twitter you add @PixInsight in the same way you add any other person.

Why waste your energy and time with something as useless as Twitter and FB?
