Region around 57Cyg, DSLR (Canon)
« on: 2011 October 06 11:28:03 »
Dear PI Users,

here is another PI processed image.
It shows the region around the star 57cyg between the northamerica- and pelican-nebula.
I had to use an achromatic 125/900mm fraunhofer refractor.
Canon EOS 450d. modified, 800ASA, 26x10 minutes exposure time, no filter.
Image fully processed in PI (like all of mine :-)). In this case I made heavy use of the
DarkStructureEnhance- and CLAHE functions, later some ACDNR Noise reduction.
I did not succeed in supressing the small blue halos around the stars (->telescope lens),
but the details in the h-alpha and dark clouds are quite fine ....

Any feedback and hints are welcome.
Christoph
Kind regards,

Hi,

The image seems to be great, haven't you got a better resolution one?

Cheers

Hi Christoph. Nice image. And I appreciate the effort required with a DSLR.

The more I see of dedicated CCD images the less enchanted I become, persisting with a DSLR. There seems little point modifying expensive cameras for astro when there are comparative alternatives with the added advantage of cooling.

I am told that the latest KAI 8050 True Sense interline sensors are a vast improvement in OSC as a DSLR replacement. The QSI's with the KAF 8300 are comparatively priced with Canon 5D MKII, as their price drops, replaced by a newer model.

Still we persist.

@ "lex": Unfortunately I currently have no other possibilities for a higher resolution.
I am registered in some other galleries, but for the full resolution, there is a upload limit by size   >:D
Flickr can upload images by full size, but they see to downsample them - maybe you know a provider
for full res ?

@Astropixel:
Yeah - time will tell when there will be some cooled ccd cameras affordable  (with acceptable chip size) :moneyinmouth:
Astronomers are patient ....  ;)
Nevertheless - It is also a challenge to compete with all those high end cameras, I saw a lot of nice images
taken with a DSLR.
I will keep an eye to the KAI 8050 ...

Kind regards,
      Christoph

Hi,

There is an other provider for this kind of services, i think it is called dropbox or something?

Did you try to save your file as a jpeg in PI, using the compression slider at 40%?
With this your Image could possibly be directly visible in acceptable quality...

Just upload it with the additional options option; euurrr sounds weird ::)

Best

Lex

Hi lex,

this is the high res version (with less jpeg quality, 45%) in astrophotogallery.org:
