Today we have upgraded PixInsight Forum to the long awaited version 2.0 of
Simple Machines Forum. We have applied the automatic upgrade from version 1.1.14, which has worked like a charm. A big thanks to the SMF team who have done a wonderful work with version 2.0. SMF is by far the best forum software available in my opinion.
Spam control is always a major problem for forum maintainers. Since we are increasing our traffic and visibility, spammer registration attempts have been growing spectacularly during the last months, to the point that we are no longer able to control them with captchas and manual maintenance. With this update we have also installed a
PeopleSign account on the registration form, which seems to be working very well —we have reduced spammer registration attempts from about 80/day on average to just 2 human spammers.
