Star Registration not saving translated files
« on: 2011 April 23 19:20:09 »
So I've used Star Registration extensively...this is the first time that I have had an issue.

I am registering a set of images, and it is not saving the translated images.  I can see in the console that it is definitely detecting the translations - and it is writing out the registered file.

But the resulting images are not registered.

Has anyone ever run into this?  I haven't tried any other images...but like I said, I've been using registration for a while with no issues...

Ok - so I guess this is user error...

I didn't realize that it was matching on hot pixels.  The problem is, that with a OSC - hot pixels become nice blue / green / red stars :)  So I had to turn the radius of the hot pixel rejection up in order to improve the situation...now it works fine.

Dave,

try my hot pixel fixer before you debayer.

I don't need to use it when I dither, DSS doesn't see the hot pixels as stars. Not sure why PI is any different in this regard.
Best,

As David has already pointed out, in the rare occasions where SA detects hot pixels as stars this can be solved easily by increasing the "Hot pixel removal" parameter (Star Detection section). This is very unusual though (I have only seen a couple cases where this has been necessary).

Note that the hot pixel removal routine of SA does not modify the images; it works on temporary working images used for star detection before image registration. For cosmetic corrections (when necessary) we have Nikolay's CosmeticCorrection script and Carlos' DefectMap tool.
