Converting Canon T2i raw files
« on: 2011 January 21 08:45:49 »
The converted dark levels of the  Canon T2i files ( 32bit .fit BatchFormatConversion and Debayered files ) is around 10 times higher then the actual dark levels.

Hi Cleon,

I don't know the Canon program too much, but I understand it doesn't provide true raw data. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the Canon program always subtracts the dark pedestal and applies a white balance correction, and I think it also interpolates the data to de-Bayer the image.

To work with DSLR raw images, you must set DSLR_RAW preferences as follows:

- Color Adjustment: all values = 1.
- White balance: both options disabled.
- Either "Create RAW Bayer" or "Create RAW Bayer CFA" enabled.
- "No black point correction" enabled.

With these options, you'll be reading true raw pixel data as it has been stored in the device. Let me know how it works this way.

Juan, it seems that the new codec (WIC) that Canon is using for their raw file format  is the problem.
Also, could you create a new heading on the PI forum for IC, I think this would help new users like me figure out how to properly/correctly create calibrated subs?

I could be wrong on this but I don't think the Canon software is actually performing a white balance adjustment. It records the white balance setting value so that subsequent software can use it as a starting point, but there has been no white balance change.
It could well be making other adjustments.  I don't know. However, I have a friend that has contacts within Canon. I'll see what I can find out and get back to you.
