St10 and EOS400 Alignment
« on: 2011 March 08 03:56:30 »
Hi all,

I've tried to use the luminance of my ST10 with tha data of my older EOS400,
how can I match the two pictures with different scale?

DynamicAlignment is your friend  ;)
1st Image L, 2nd Image the color. Click on some stars on L, correct the position of the stars accordingly on color.
You may need to change the color of the crosses on the tool so to be easy to identify the points on the 2nd image (I usually do this, changing the color of the crosses to something bright).

Apply when happy. Very strong tool.

Hi Stefan,

Welcome to PixInsight Forum.

Isn't StarAlignment working in this case? What is the difference in scale between both sets of images?

Our StarAlignment tool has some limitations to register images under very different scaling ratios (say more than 2:1 for example). Perhaps you're facing these problems. In such case, an easy solution is rescaling up the smaller images prior to registration.

We are working on a new version of StarAlignment that won't have these problems.

I thought that Stefan means two already stacked images, one L, another RGB, in which case why to use StarAlignment and bothered to rescale first ? Is DynamicAlignment rescaling (and rotating) internal process not good enough for just two images, especially when the 2nd is RGB ?

PS So far I'm using it a lot to match whatever you can think, not only L with RGB. Especially usefull BTW when I want to match and compare my shoots with eg Internet published ones from RC scopes >=12" :)
