could the image identifier be set to the filename please?
« on: 2007 September 24 12:08:33 »
Hi,

I really like the ability to set the filename identifier in PCL. Simply call images 'Red', 'Lum' etc. But why are the default names 'Image01' etc? Why not use the basename of the path? In many cases I will know what image it is without needing to rename it. Once I have more than a few images loaded the Image03 and Image05 doesn't mean anything anymore.

Thanks,

  Sander

Hi Sander,

Good point. I'll add this as an option to Preferences: "Use file names as default image identifiers".

For file names with spaces and other characters that aren't legal in image identifiers, I think that replacing them with underscores would be a good solution, wouldn't it?

Thanks for an excellent suggestion.

Replacing illegal characters with an underscore (or configurable) seems ok to me. Don't forget to check if the first character of the file name is a number ;). I would opt to insert an underscore in this case.

Thanks Juan, that would be great. I didn't realize not all file name characters are legal for identifiers so replacing them with underscore sounds great.

It seemed so obvious I was not sure I should ask for it because I was sure there was a reason this wasn't done already :-)

Thanks Jordi,
