Problem to open file and automatic update PixInsight.
« on: 2010 December 23 16:53:03 »
Hello.

I'm very happy that new PixInsight has been released.

But sad to say, I have some problems.

Problem 1. Support Korean file name and file path.

When I try to open files that have Korean file name or included Korean folder name in the file path.
I think that you've already know about it.
OS is Windows XP Kor.
Refer below screen capture.

Please let me to do this.  ;)

Problem 2. Update failed in my desktop.
I installed PixInsight in my laptop and update modules successfully.
But when I installed PixInsight in my desktop update modules failed.

1. Run PixInsight.
2. Click update notification window.
3. Download modules : OK
4. Close PixInsight
5. Update windows popped up but progress bar was stopped at the position of 25%.
6. Press ESC key and tried to update again.
7. Update failed because of updater could not find components.

What may be the problem?

Thank you.

Hi Kisik,

Welcome to PixInsight Forum.

The first problem is indeed a well-known one: CFITSIO does not support other character sets but Latin1 (basically, the ASCII character set). Unfortunately, CFITSIO does not handle Unicode file names and paths, and PixInsight's FITS format support is implemented on top of CFITSIO, so this is the origin of the problem.

The only solution is hacking CFITSIO's ugly code, which is not an easy task and definitely something I hate to do, but... it is necessary. I only ask for more patience as we have many priority tasks right now, and this one is time-consuming (and error-prone).

For now, the only solution is using Latin1 characters for FITS file names and the directories where you have them stored, as you know.

Now the second problem:

Quote
7. Update failed because of updater could not find components.

That error message denotes that one or more of the updater programs are missing. Something went wrong during application installation. Please uninstall it (select Start > All Programs > PixInsight Platform > Uninstall PixInsight), reboot your computer and install again. That should fix the problem.

Happy new year!!!

I have many fits files taken with ST-2000XM.
Imaging software was MaxIm DL and its owner name was set as Korean Language, too.
So SOFTWARE OWNER field of FITS Header information was set as Korean Language.
I can't use these files for exercise, because calibration failed.

I can wait whenever it will be done, but just don't forget it.

Second problem is cleared now with new release of PixInsight 1.6.9.651.
As you said, I tried to uninstall PI and re-install but it could not solve the problem.

I love this Great PixInsight!!!

Thank you for reading.
