Problem aligning Mosaic
« on: 2010 September 26 15:35:11 »
I been trying to align two images all night one of IC1805 the second of IC1848

I include a screen shot with both images lined up manually and Auto STF on both. As you can see there isn't a great area but there are a few distinct star patterns in there. I tried following various scenarios I found on the web but the Console Messages indicated that no aligment was found after the sixth try.

I did have some success by creating a preview on each image where they overlap and then aligning the preiews but the alignment angle was way off.

I've been using Star Alignment with the Register/Union - Mosaic option on the linear images

Is there a manual method of aligning two images?

Nigel,

This may be a specific challenge for Juan to address - in my mind he has always been the MosaicMeister, and may be the only person in the PTeam lineup who can fully visualise what the alignement code can, or cannot, achieve.

I haven't played with mosaics at all in PI - one image at a time stretches my abilities sometimes :'(

Yes, the manual way to align is to use the DynamicAligment process. It is more flexible, and can be much more accurate, but requires more work. Try with it.

As Carlos suggests, try the DA process, and if you are struggling, let me know and I will upload a personal copy of my unfinished video tutorial on using the Dynamic Alignment tool (it has been 'work in progress' for almost a year now, and Harry has no fear that his position of SPIelberg will ever be threatened ;))
