Dead Keyboard, while scripts are running
« on: 2010 August 26 14:55:58 »
Juan, you are gonna love this: the keyboard is often dead while PI is running (working, not just with the dialog window open) a script. This means, I cannot write anything elsewhere. I'm running Fedora 13 x64.

Probably running in realtime thread priority. At least that's how my PC used to behave when PI was being a bad citizen :)

No, this has nothing to do with thread priorities; that problem is definitely gone since several versions on all platforms. That could only happen on Linux if he'd enabled real-time priority at a system-level on his machine, and even running at the highest priority the keyboard wouldn't be blocked but sporadically during a few seconds at most.

Anyway this has nothing to do with threads because it's happening during script execution, and scripts are single-threaded.

Pretty weird! On which machine are you running PI?

By the way, yesterday the keyboard was dead during ImageIntegration (or ImageCalibration) too. So, this is not just script related, although there are very few times where a process generates that behavior.
I'm working on a dual 2 core processor, 2 or 4 Gb of Ram. Overall, is a fine machine ;) Having said that, I think that the monitor is stressing the system a lot, a 30" HP LCD, 2550x1900 px (of curse this is at work, not home! <vbg>)

Open a terminal window and run the top command. Run PixInsight and while it is doing a heavy process, tell me what priority (PR column), processor usage, etc. top lists for the PixInsight process.

Monday ;) I took the day off :D I'll be working today at home, updating process module codes and recompiling them with the new PCL.
