Suggestions on How to Make a Timelapse Video?
« on: 2010 July 19 18:11:43 »
To all,

I have processed by data so now what do I need to do?  I assume I need to reduce the file size of each image.  What is the preferred dimensions?  Once I get all the images downsized, what is the preferred program to convert them into a movie?

Any steps and/or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Wade

Hi,

1. Image Container is your friend when handling large amounts of images
2. XGA resolution 1024×768 is usually more than enough. Of course, you can also go HD...
3. I use Windows 7 Movie Maker (free, comes with the free Live tools by Microsoft). Import all images, reduce switch time between frames to 0.2 seconds, and you are done.

Hi:

I use virtualdub, it's free. You can reduce to HD video i.e. 1920x1080px or 1280x720px. For vimeo I reduce video to 540px. Virtualdub has filters, one of them is RESIZE, It does a great work.

Best. Silvercup.

virtualdub can convert stills into a video? I didn't know that. Picassa can create a movie based on stills but the minimum time between shots is 1s which is probably too long.

Virtualdub can convert stills into a video but images must be sequentials IMG_0001,IMG_0002... So you must be careful with ImageContainer Output Template, i.e. "&filename;_&datetime;&extension;" don't work, I use "PC_&filename;&extension;" for example.

You just need to open first image.
