Ha/RGB and/or Ha/LRGB blending
« on: 2010 April 22 14:55:14 »
I am tremulously preparing to try out some new gear and get Ha data on M101...
I HAVE a RGB and LRGB (and synthLRGB) result.
I have gingerly shot some Ha flats...
The moon is out >:D
The mount is untested... ???

So...Where do I start in Pixinsight...?
I think this must be a little bit trickier than my previous (first) set of questions pertaining to mono imaging...
? Maybe just call the Ha data Lum...and use LRGB combination...??
But that sounds too easy.. >:D

And what if the image is LRGB to start with...?

Any starter tips would be appreciated...
I realize I ask a lot (? too many) questions...and maybe I could hunt around and find answers...but this place has always yielded paydirt..and high grade too...

Someone in SBIG group said that Jack  Harvey had come up with a way to do this (in Pix)..
Anyone have a link to that..?

I would have thought Pix has a "official way" to do this...no?
This is not a "sensitive" subject is it... ???
So far the data stinks...
Maybe I should wait till the moon is gone;

Hi Dave.
I "know" how to do that, but I've never tried :D So, I'm waiting someone with experience in this field to answer first :P

That was cryptic  >:D.....

Seriously...I thought you were a  "Jedi"..
Well I am going to "invent" one in the meantime....All I have to do is find a way to make Pix treat it as RED...
? Maybe take the LRGB...break it down to RGB files...turn the green to red,,and the red to the Ha data...
Who knows what sort of monster I may produce.. >:D

Dave, the easiest way to merge Ha with other data would be with PixelMath (or to use the SelectiveBlend process I wrote a few months ago, but its not compiled for the current PI version).
Other alternative could be to use the LRGBCombination process. Use the Ha as luminance, and play with the channel weights. Also would help to change the current RGB working space.

The problem with Ha is that stars are smaller than in RGB data, so it may lead to "color artifacts". That's why I wanted someone with experience to answer that. I could throw some workarounds, but it would be better if someone just explains a method that have worked for sure :)
