You know what. I have no right to be upset and group the owner in with evil corporations. He could give all his money to charity for all i know. I apologize

Don't worry, my software and I will be brought down. it's only a matter of time, so you'll have your laughing moment, just be patient. In the meantime, please don't disturb and let me become rich with my old paradigms, selling PixInsight licenses at astronomical prices. Your messages won't be deleted because I don't like censuring, but the rest of users may not deserve your contributions, so your forum user has been banned for sanity. This is the first time something like that happens. So enjoy!

People spend thousands of dollars on equipment to acquire images and then quibble about a couple of hundred dollars to process those expensively acquired images. I've never understood the logic behind that.
Your logic is absolutely crazy. LOL. You spent a lot of money for your telescope and stuff, so the astronomy software can be expensive as well. Yeah. Astronomers should accept special prices at everything. Price of PI HAS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO WITH COSTS Of astronomy equipment.

I am woundering how many astronomers are using PixInsight software, and how much more there would use it if the price was affordable!
Is it really necessary to keep the price for a licence astronomical high ?

I don't think the price for PixInsight is unreasonable.  Let me explain my thoughts on this. - MY OPINION (PI USER)

a) The PI team provides regular updates and fixes - more so than many other commercial software products. -
WELL, WHY CANT YOU LEAVE IT AS IT IS? I DONT WANT ANOTHER AND ANOTHER UPDATES. ONE DAY, YOU ARE GOING TO MAKE AN UPDATE WHICH WILL NEED MORE MEMORY RAM AND SPACE. I AM NOT BUYING A NEW PC BECAUSE OF THIS.
ANOTHER THING...THIS SOFTWARE IS QUITE COMPLICATED, SO IT REQUIRES TIME USERS LEARN THAT. NEW UPDATES SHOULD NOT BE SOMETHING TOTALLY DIFFERENT, JUST KEEP IT IN MIND, PLEASE.

b) PixInsight runs on nearly every major O/S platform (Windows, OS X and GNU/Linux and soon freeBSD I believe).  That is far better support than the vast majority of other commercial software packages
DOES THIS MAKE A PRICE? OH BOY.

c) a growing number of commercial software providers are charging customers for the privileges of updates (yeah, I'm looking at you software bisque)
ONCE AGAIN, IRELEVANT

d) PixInsight can be installed on as many computers as you see fit - there are no extra licence requirements.  This is vastly different to most other commercial software products who will insist on a separate licence for each additional computer install.
THIS IS GOOD, I GIVE YOU THAT.  LETS HOPE PEOPLE DONT SHARE THIS. HOW DO YOU KNOW ITS STILL ONE PERSON?

e) Once you get used to the PixInsight UI, you'll realise how good it is.  Alternative pieces of software lack in comparison imho.  I remember showing a video of the PixInsight UI to my best mate (he's not into astro processing, but he is in the computer support industry) and he was immensely impressed with the UI.  And he's not easily impressed.
LOL THATS FUNNY, BUT YEAH, YOU GUYS ARE GOOD. MAXIMDL AND PHOTOSHOP ARE GREAT AS WELL. RESULTS DEPEND ON HOW SKILLED THE USER IS. PI IS GREAT, BUT NOT EASY.

Have you see the price of Adobe Photoshop?  It ain't cheap.  Maxim DL?  Same.  Yes, there are other astro processing software packages out there, some even free, but they are quite limited in scope when compared to PixInsight.
WELL, BOTH PHOTOSHOP AND MAXIMDL ARE EASILY TO DOWNLOAD FOR FREE. CRACKED VERSIONS ETC. YEAH, ITS NOT LEGAL, BUT PEOPLE JUST DO IT. SO THEY SAVE A LOT OF MONEY.

PixInsight isn't cheap.  But it's worth every penny imho.

Cheers,

Dave

PS One more advantage - the documentation for PixInsight is generally far better than most software applications.  It's also a very stable piece of software from my experience.
HOW ABOUT THAT BOOK "INSIDE PI"? IT AINT REALLY BARGAIN PRICE EITHER :)
GOOD LUCK

erm, 90% of my astronomical purchases have been far more than the cost of PixInsight and my images have improved a 1000% so pay the money, get the best!

It is absurd when people are accepting paying the price of PI for a counterweight set (probably built by fairies, who knows >:D) while complaining for the price of PI, ignoring the level of engineering involved for writing scientific software like PI.

it is always the same story... people agrees to pay much more a Takahashi refractor (like FSQ106ED) than a basis Skywatcher one but cannot understand differences between software and the time spend by the developper ! Or even a software can have a cost.
That's right, I forget, software guys around the world who develop software are only some "geek" who work for free... ::)  Juan doesn't need to drink or eat or even pay taxes, house, car, computer... no, all should come free for him from the heaven  ;D  :cheesy: >:D

And what is the price of a software license ? $10, $100, $1000 ? is there an officiel price where under this limit it is nice and upper it a shame (or more...)

I was 1 of the 1st to order my PI license in France when it was 1.2 or 1.3 version. If tomorrow, a new paid version arrived, I will be 1 on the 1st to order a upgrade license.
I have several license (PixInsight, photoshop monthly, photoshop plugins like Luminar, star tools, AstroPixelProcessor...), each has their own advantages but, for astrophotography processing, Pixinsight is on top of all of them. And really far on top.

For people who complain about price, I imagine you if 1 day your boss will tell you, from tomorrow you will work for free  ::)

Really, if you think Pix is too expensive, go to freeware solution... but don't complain.
