Frequent segmentation violations
« on: 2019 December 13 22:01:28 »
Hello:

I'm running 1.8.8-2, and have been getting frequent segmentation violations. I've attached a screenshot of a typical Process Console output that follows a violation, and it seems that a nearly identical Critical Signal Backtrace is generated.

Among the actions that seem to trigger the violation is simply expanding an image icon from the workspace desktop. The violations are so frequent that I'm saving my projects even after fairly minimal changes, which has slowed my workflow considerably.

I'd appreciate any insight on this!

Many thanks,
Howard.

Hi Howard,

This problem cannot be reproduced on any of our macOS machines, running macOS 10.14 and 10.15. It has not been reported before, either.

This looks like a machine-specific issue. Can you try on a different computer? Check also the just-released 1.8.8-3 version.

Hi Juan:

Thanks for the quick reply. I've installed 1.8.8-3, but the problem persists. I don't have another machine handy, but will try that as soon as I can.

I tend to create large pixproject bundles, 1GB or more, since I like to keep track of the complete LRGB workflow in one place - could that be a problem?

Hi Howard,

We regularly work with projects in the 4 - 10 GB range, especially for intensive testing on all platforms. We have never seen anything similar to the problem you are reporting. The current version of PixInsight is stable in all of our tests on macOS 10.14 and 10.15, as well as on the rest of supported platforms.

Hi Juan:

OK, thanks again for the quick info, I'll try another computer as soon as I can.

I'm facing this issue too on my Mac Pro 5.1; 96Gb ram 3.33Mhz, 6 core x 2 processors machine, running Mac OS Mojave.
This errors are frequently coming up and happen in every session. I can't try Pixinsight 1.8.8-3 on another machine, don't have another.
I hope this issue can be solved soon. I know you're doing your best to give us the best Pixinsight ever but the new release is not granting stability as it was in the past with older releases in my case. I'm sorry.
Thank you for your help.
