ImageSolver Script/PCC Database Servers?
« on: 2019 December 18 07:50:35 »
Hi,

Is it me or has something happened to all the PCC/Image Solver Script Database Servers?

The Image Solve Script (and therefore PCC?) are returning an error after downloading the Vizier data. The CDS Strasbourg Db seems to be down at the moment, so I have tried using the CASU Cambridge and CFA Harvard servers. But it makes no difference.

The problem seems to be with the Catalogue download image; "*** Error: Found too few stars in the catalog. The magnitude filter could be too strict or the catalog server could be malfunctioning".

The object is IC 443, the JellyFish Nebula and the RA and DEC are correct at RA 6 16 and DEC +22 31. The Focal Length and Pixel size are also correct at FL 429 Ps 2.41. I have also tried an image centred on B33, the Horsehead Nebula, which also doesn't work

I am running "PI-windows-x64-1.8.8-3-20191213-c", with the latest updates. I have also tried going back to "PI-windows-x64-1.8.8-20191108-c"  which definitely worked before I upgraded, but doesn't work now.

Any thoughts greatly appreciated!

Cheers, Jim

*** Error: Found too few stars in the catalog. The magnitude filter could be too strict or the catalog server could be malfunctioning
Please check the following items:
The initial coordinates should be inside the image.
The initial resolution should be within a factor of 2 from the correct value.
Adjust the star detection sensitivity parameter, so that the script can detect most of the stars in the image without mistaking noise for stars.
The catalog should be matched to the image. Choose the appropriate catalog and magnitude filter, so that the number of stars extracted from the catalog can be similar to the number of stars detected in the image.
*** Error: Unable to plate solve the image: Alignment failed
This is usually because the initial parameters are too far from the real metadata of the image.

Hi,

Well Strasburg seems to be back this morning and PCC is working again.

Cheers, Jim

Another user pointed me at: https://pixinsight.com/download/ for the PPMX.bin catalog.

It works for the ImageSover script and perhaps others?

Thanks! :)

So does that remove the need to download the Vizier data from the net, allowing offline Solve/PCC runs?

Cheers, Jim

The catalog PPMX.bin can be used in ImageSolver but not in PCC. It doesn't have photometric data that could be used for the color calibration.

Ah! Thanks, Andres.

I assume there is no way to do PCC offline then, otherwise you would have said I guess?
