Problem with Canon EOS 4000D
« on: 2019 December 21 06:52:44 »
Hi everyone,

I want to calibrate some old data from my first camera, a Canon EOS 4000D, which I didn't processed yet. During image calibration of the raw files, I get the warning that the image geometry is incompatible. The reason from my point of view is that PixInsight recongnizes the raw files as from a Canon EOS 3000D (and not 4000D). As a consequence the raw dimensions and the CFA pattern are wrong (also but not important the focal lenght). The message in the process console is the following:

Camera ........... Canon EOS 3000D
Timestamp ........ 2019-08-22T22:44:28Z
Exposure ......... 361s
ISO speed ........ 1600
Focal length ..... 50 mm
CFA pattern ...... Bayer GBRG
Raw dimensions ... w=5344 h=3516
Image geometry ... x=142 y=52 w=5202 h=3464

Raw decoding parameters:
Output mode ............... cfa
Auto crop ................. enabled
Wavelet noise threshold ... 0
White balancing ........... disabled
Black point correction .... disabled
Highlights clipping ....... disabled
Auto rotate ............... disabled
Output image .............. w=5202 h=3464 n=1 Gray

Reading RAW data: done
*** Error: Incompatible image geometry

In the past I have calibrated the raw files from my Canon EOS 4000D without any problems. And PixInsight recongnized the raw files as from a Canon EOS 4000D.

I have the latest version 1.8.8-3 running. The Raw Format Preferences are set to Pure Raw.

Has anyone an idea what I have to do to get it work properly again?

Hi,

I have also been playing with old DSL data and get the same error.  My Master_Dark, Master_Flats and Super_Bias are 5202 x 3465 and the Lights 5202 x 3464. These image processed before, so a bit strange.  Anyway, I just cropped the the Masters to match the Lights and then everything worked.

you gotta be careful with that crop to make sure you preserve the bayer matrix properly.

if you are using master darks/bias which were created a long time ago there is a chance that the various changes to how PI decodes DSLR files is the cause. also, there was a change to libRaw recently that broke things for those of us doing AP... you can check this thread for some more info:

Hi Rob,

thank you! That was the problem and the solution.

Fortunatly I found my old calibration files on an external hard drive. So I can create new masters and there is no need for the workaround for me. Furthermore I found out that the Canon EOS 4000D is called Canon EOS 3000D in some regions.

Hey pfile, thanks for the heads-up about cropping and the bayer matrix.  I was wondering what went wrong with the integration
