Processing STC Dual band filter images
« on: 2019 August 11 03:11:58 »
Hi

I have the STC dual band clip in filter for my EOS 6D. I have been processing the results the same way I did RGB before I had the filter.
The results are pretty good but I am concerned that I am not getting the most out of my data.

What is the best way to process the data?
Should I try and split out the colours?

The image comes out very green. It is of course easy to remove with the background removal functions but again I am concerned I and loosing useful data.

Any hints would be welcome.

Cheers

Rishi

rather than relying on DBE to fix the balance, you can do BackgroundNeutralization (followed by ColorCalibration) to fix the colors. when doing BN, make sure to set the threshold high enough that the (higher valued) green pixels are considered by BN or else the results will not be as expected. or, you can use PhotometricColorCalibration to do it in one step, but you still need to configure the background threshold.

of course, if you have bad LP gradients, you can use DBE first and as a side effect it will mostly neutralize the background, but it's a good idea to do some sort of color calibration step after DBE.

I've seen this filter recently and I'd love to enhance an RVB picture with Ha and/or OIII. Not for imaging directly.

Thanks I will give the photometric calibration a try.
