Using stacked frames from SharpCap
« on: 2019 July 20 13:15:27 »
I currently stack frames in SharpCap using a OSC camera or mono for H-alpha only.  I have been exporting them unstretched in PNG format and then opening them in PI for some post-processing.  My question is:  Would another format be better?  I can choose from TIFF, PNG, JPEG, and FITS.

.FITS would contain much more data than a .png and have no compression.

Thanks for the suggestion, Chris.  I will try it out.

Hi,

Perhaps just take the "fits" files to PI and "Rack, Pack and Stack"  - I believe you will get a better result. (this is for Bias, Darks, Flats and Lights)

Definitely, absolutely, undoubtedly, avoid using PNG, JPEG and TIFF as raw data. Always.

Thanks all.  The combination of aligning and stacking in SC and then post-process in PI gives a unique combination of doing live viewing, saving those final stretched views and then saving the unstretched live views in a format to use PI to get more AP quality images.
