Save your "standard PixInsight workflow" using PixInsight's PROJECT

At 75 I sometimes have difficulty remembering the order of all the image processing steps for my "standard Pixinsight workflow" (not even mentioning remembering all the settings for each of the individual processes). My standard workflow is roughly based on the general workflow from a tutorial on Light Vortex Astronomy for DSLR processing of M31. After performing DBE/BackgroundNeutraliztion/ColorCalibration this tutorial requires about 26 additional processes to be applied to the image being processed.

I recently found a way to easily save all the process icons for my "standard workflow" by using Pixinsight's Project. The link below is to my new tutorial which shows how easy it is to save your standard workflow so that it can be loaded and used on every new image you acquire.

The attached picture shows a screen shot of what the PI screen looks like after I've loaded my standard workflow Project. Each icon along the right side of the image represents a PI process (for example: RGBWorkingSpace, HistogramTransformation, etc.). Once the Project is loaded I load the image that is to be processed. Double clicking on each icon opens it up so that it can then be applied to the image.  I'm not recommending this workflow, but, just showing how Project saves your icons exactly the way they were arranged when you saved them.

I hope this use of the PI Project proves helpful for you. It has saved me an enormous amount of time.  I'm sure there are other ways of doing this, but, I haven't yet found them, so, this is my current solution to saving my workflows.

I have created Projects to save my standard workflow for:

Preprocessing
Deconvolution
MaskedStretch
Reducing Star Brightness
Sharpening Stars
Creating a Mosaic

Very nice procedure you have there, Steve. If you have time, could you drop me an email (or post a download here) on what process icon steps and values you use in your projects that you listed.

I have created Projects to save my standard workflow for:

Not quite 75 here, but have the same trouble remembering all the details of each functional workflow.

Outstanding!  Very useful.  Thanks Steve, for taking the time to put this together.  I'm still threading my way through all the knobs, features, processes, etc., of PixInsight, and this is a really nice way to organize the techniques as you learn them.  I am a huge fan of scripting for the sake of repeat-ability.

Hi Steve,

firstof all, thank you for the solution and the effort you made with the video.
But I'm wondering why you choose an "empty"-project-file to save your process-icon. Pixinsight has its own function for this.
If you select all your icons and make right-mouse click, you can choose "save selected icons". Then give them a name and it will be saved with all parameters that you have choose the last time.
To launch this set of icon you have to made a right click anywhere on the pixinsight background and choose "process icons" and "load process icons".
So there is no confusing between real project with images in it and just process icon sets.

You are absolutely correct. Saving just the icons is the correct way to do this. I wasn't aware of that at the time I created the video.
