Widespan Milkyway Mosaic?
« on: 2019 February 05 06:29:19 »
Hello,

i´ve captured a pretty Milkyway Mosaic last year, spanning from Aquila to Musca with the Galactic Center in Centerposition. I did this with a 24mm Lens on a Canon6D.
I thought processing would be easy, but i gave up on it. I can match together two panels of it but no way to match al 4 panels. It seems like the distortion is just to strong.

Are there any recommendations or tricks out there ? I would love to hear.

Thanks in Advance
Frank

Hi Frank,

What a coincidence! I am working right now on a new astrometry-based mosaic construction tool. This tool will be ideal to generate extreme wide-field mosaics, such as the one you have captured. The principle of operation is similar to the MosaicByCoordinates script, written by Andrés del Pozo, which you already can use in PixInsight. However, being written in C++ and fully multithreaded, the new tool will be much faster. It will include also an efficient frame blending feature based on multiband (multiscale) blending.

So I ask you for patience while I work on this new tool. In the meantime, you can of course try with the MosaicByCoordinates script, which should also work nicely to generate this mosaic.

Certainly yes! I'll need plenty of data when I start testing the new tool. I'll contact you when this happens, thank you so much!
