Anyone See Faint Bubble Near LDN 1468?
« on: 2019 January 13 15:03:32 »
Hi All,

I was processing some luminance data from 09/15/2018 of the region around IC348 and noticed a faint bubble in the calibrated and integrated luminance image near LDN1468 (see attached). I can't tell if this is a real bubble or an errant dust doughnut that crept in somehow (no doughnuts there in the master flat) and didn't get processed out. The weather here has sucked for the past several weeks and I can't re-image and the internet doesn't seem to have a high resolution image to check this. Has anyone else seen a bubble in this spot?

Thanks,
Kerry

Hello Kerry,

The following astrobin search query,

https://www.astrobin.com/search/?q=IC%20348&field_radius_max=8.0&field_radius_min=0.0&d=i&t=all&sort=-likes

will bring you some deep images from respected astrophotographers. At a quick glance, I couldn't see the bubble there. But I might be wrong.

There is a really bright star just out of frame and I think it may have caused an optical effect, i.e.a circular lens flare.
