Can I use .CR2 files from my Canon DSLR, collected with Backyard EOS, with the CometAlignment process?

I think you can, but your best bet would be to calibrate them first - oops, forgot about registration

No, you can't. CometAlignment expects your subs to be registered, so you have to register them first. Also, usually you want your subs to be calibrated before registering, so proper sequence would be calibration -> registration -> comet alignment.

another problem is that CR2 files have no fits header, and although the EXIF information contains the capture time/date, i don't think it gets copied into the FITS header thats generated upon conversion to fits or xisf. i believe CometAlignment wants the OBS-DATE keyword to order the frames and interpolate the comet position from the starting and ending position.

i think this has been discussed before, so it might be worth searching the forum. there is a new DSLR RAW module and who knows, it may propagate the EXIF time/date information to the FITS keywords.

Getting shot time from EXIF to OBS-DATE works for me in 1.8.05
