Noise Evaluation

Hi Guys

Just wondering if it's beneficial to evaluate noise at every chance I get throughout the imaging processing chain? Eg, Image calibration, debayering and then again at image integration. Does evaluating noise at each stage provide more info to the subsequent processes?

Imo, no, not needed. Use approprate noise reduction when noise starts to become a problem, ie when it becomes visually annoying. Eg, in the linear state you can use tgvdenoise or mlt. In the nonlinear stage, tgvdenoise, mmt, acdnr.
I normally use nr in lab mode, and not ad rgb. This way I can target luminance noise and chrominance noise more precisely.
