Arcsinh Missing from Windows 7 Trial Version
« on: 2018 February 25 19:24:52 »
The Arcsinh process is missing from my trial version of PI for Windows. Not found in modules either. I'm running Windows 7, 64-bit.

No, it’s not. Here's a screenshot from my desktop.

arcsinh was probably distributed as an update to PI. i can't remember if a trial version of PI will download updates or not, but you might try "resources > updates > check for updates" and see what happens.

Already tried updating before posting and the notification said my version was up to date. My trial version was downloaded in late January, so I would think Arcsinh would have been included anyway.

i am not sure all the updates get rolled into the latest download.

it could be that a trial version just does not get updates, hence the "up to date" message. i just can't remember because i've had a license for like 8 years. juan would have to comment; i vaguely remember reading once that trials don't get updates.

The trial version of PixInsight is identical to the commercial version with just two exceptions:

- It requires an active Internet connection to validate the trial license with our server each time the core application is launched.

- A trial license does not allow running PixInsight on several computers simultaneously (although a trial license can be moved to a different machine).

So yes, the trial version of PixInsight receives all update notifications, just as the commercial version. You can read a detailed description of our trial license on our trial license request page:

Sorry, but this missing module issue is not reproducible. The ArcsinhStretch module should be installed if you are running version 1.8.5 of PixInsight under normal working conditions and have installed all updates available. Check your computer for malwares, virus protection applications and other applications that may be interfering with PixInsight. On Windows, some buggy system updates can also cause these problems by damaging or erasing application files.

Juan,
I'm running an up-to-date trial version, 1.8.5.1353 Ripley (x64). The trial version was installed about 4 weeks ago and runs fine through the server connection on the Win7 PC the program was installed on.
Anti-virus is the widely-used AVG Free edition. Never had a problem with viruses or malware. No problem with Win 7 updates, either.

I tried the install module procedure under Process-Install Modules, which found 0 modules in the search.

I then did a windows explorer search on the entire PC which found the ArcsinehStretch-pxm.dll file on a hard drive on the PC, different from the drive that PI is installed on. The .dll file was in a "Users/.../AppData/Local/temp/Pixinsight64-updates/content/bin" folder. I copied the file to the bin folder on the drive where PI is installed and then did the update module procedure. Module was then added and is now listed in the Process menu.
