This is the second time windows stops my Pix icons from showing up (arg)
i tried reinstalling Pixinsight 1.8 1253 and it still happens the next day.
so i reinstalled Win 7  Pro 64 bit , and still no icon for pix .XISF or .XPSM  other files types of Pix.

Just a quick question... your maximization limit (the orange line) is all the way to the right- is this what you intend?
(If you move it to the left and give more room on the right side and load icons, do they show up?)

You can also go under the WINDOW menu and reset the maximization limit. (The area to the right of this line is dedicated icon space... which on your current screen is unavailable for icons!)

If I am correct... your Process Control window would show that you *did* load the icons successfully.

P.S. I just reproduced the behavior. A suggestion for the maximization limit behavior could be that if no icons fit in the maximization area- it either automatically expands the desktop or moves the line to the left... or maybe just makes the ML blink to let the user know there are "hidden" icons.

Thank you for that hint.. back to my original question which it seems was not asked correctly.

look at the attachment and you will notice that my icons for Pixinsight are windows Shell white with 3 dots , and not the nice blue diamonds shape of pixinsight file association in the registry...

Ah... Yes, I do believe I answered the question you asked. :)

You are asking about Windows FILE icons.
Based on your answer...I assume you right clicked and simply associated them with PixInsight. (Right Click... Properties...and then set to Opens With... PixInsight)

If so... I don't think I can help.

right, you can right click but you cannot associate the file because ""Change ICON"" is not available in that mode. i tried it :(
thanks for trying..
