Horizontal Linear Striations
« on: 2018 January 07 18:48:38 »
Can anyone tell me what these horizontal lines are that appear in about 1 in 5 subframes this evening. Most subframes are completely clear. This is an example of the worst that I've seen. It's a screen shot of a screen stretch of the subframe. I am using a QSI 683 with Astrodon NB filters and a Celestron 11" RASA. This is an Ha subframe.
ASTROGRAPH: Celestron RASA, 11" f=2.22
MOUNT:  SB Paramount MX+
IMAGING CAMERA:  QSI 683WS
FILTERS: Astrodon SHO 5nm and Gen2 LRGB
GUIDING: The SkyX TPoint Supermodel and ProTrack
SOFTWARE:  SkyX Pro, PixInsight

Wow... At first glance this looks "electronic" in nature.
(The fact that it is brightest on the left edge and then trails off...)

In the frames that contain this artifact... is it confined to the exact same pixels? probably electronic
If not- is the pattern fixed and it shifts around when you move telescope (dither)? probably very weird scattered light...I have never seen an example of
If not- do other frames show same kind of artifact... though at random rows? probably electonic

I would be curious to know the answer when you have solved it. Electronic stuff, if it is the case, is often an interference, crosstalk, or power supply kind of issue. The TEC for example can be an issue.
