1.8.5. Error message "There is no disk in the drive"
« on: 2017 August 06 22:14:06 »
I hit a bizarre problem yesterday.  If I plug a USB memory stick into my Windows PC while Pixinsight 1.8.5. is running, an error dialog box appears with the title: "PixInsight.exe - No Disk"
and with the error text: "There is no disk in the drive.  Please insert a disk into drive \Device\Harddisk8\DR8"
The dialog box has buttons for Cancel, Try Again and Continue.

As I hit those buttons the dialog box messages change in the following sequence:
"There is no disk in the drive.  Please insert a disk into drive \Device\Harddisk7\DR7"
"There is no disk in the drive.  Please insert a disk into drive \Device\Harddisk6\DR6"
"There is no disk in the drive.  Please insert a disk into drive \Device\Harddisk5\DR5"

After that, the error dialog box disappears.

It's just a minor problem but it's very odd behaviour

Really weird. Needless to say I can't reproduce it. Things that happen!

I just got the exact same error. All I did was plug in a card reader to look at some DSLR camera pics I took in LightRoom (Adobe product). I don't even have PI open or running (checked in Task manager)??

I get the same thing here using the very latest Windows 10 64 bit updates as of today. I am getting it every single time I insert the USB thumbdrive. Annoying.

I not using Windows 10 but it sounds like some strange Autoplay setting has changed or been added. Some USB flash drives also have custom software on the sticks for Autoplay also that can give grief.

Here is a link that might help maybe.
http://www.itprotoday.com/windows-server/how-customize-autoplay-defaults-windows-10

Did any of you insert you thumb drive and then double click on an image to open it? If you did, did you get a message asking what program to open it with as that might have set the autoplay. Just pure guessing on my part. The way I read the error message is Windows sees a usb drive inserted and inspects the drive for usable(associated) files by Pixinsight.exe. When it can't find any the message appears.

It never happened with PI 1.8.4. All I had to do is insert the thumbdrive and then it pops up the annoying message. No double clicking on any files, just insert the thumbdrive.

For me, the way it happens is that the PixInsight error dialog and the Windows 10 AutoPlay dialog appear at the same time.  I can select "Open folder to view files using Windows Explorer" in the Autoplay dialog and use the thumbdrive quite normally.  However, PixInsight is locked out and cannot be used until I have clicked through all the PI error messages that appear.

There are no files on any of my thumbdrives that are associated with PixInsight and no custom software on them.

I can use the Windows icon to eject the inserted drive and can remove it but I still have to click through all the PI error messages that appear.

I also tried putting an xisf file on the thumbdrive because I have those associated to PixInsight but still the same thing happens.

It's a minor inconvenience, that's all.  But it's still very odd behaviour.
