Open ImagesPlus FITS in PI?
« on: 2017 November 02 07:31:35 »
Hello,

Complete noob here.   I have just installed a trial of PI.
I have old FITS files from ImagesPlus, prepared around 2012.
Wanted to try and reprocess these images with Pixinsight.

When I try to open the files, PI says the FITS files contains no readable image.
Is there a way to open these files in PI?

Thanks,
B.

can you post one to dropbox or google drive or what have you so that someone can try? just knowing the file is from IP vintage 2012 is not enough to do anything...

Hi Deskpilot,

I had the same problem and contacted the author of ImagesPlus about that. I don't have the details, sorry, my main computer is at the shop. But I can say ImagesPlus fits files are saved in a fits format the IP author feels is preferable and which is not readable by most astro programs. You can open them in Fits Liberator and ImagesPlus, not much else. Our loss. I suggest opening in Fits Liberator and saving them as tifs?

James,

Thanks!   Ok that solves the puzzle.   Will have to go that route.
