DLL Errors with PI 1.08.05.1353
« on: 2017 October 03 15:14:35 »
I am getting the following error in reference to 3 DLL files when I attempt to launch PI 1.08.05.1353. I installed it and launched it successfully once. Now PI will not launch.

THE DLL FILES Referenced: Qt5WebEngineWidgets.dll; Qt5Gui.dll; Qt5PrintSupport.dll

THE ERROR MESSAGE:
*.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again using the original installation media or contact your system administrator or the software vendor for support. Error Status 0xc0000020.

Any clues or ideas about how to resolve?

Thanks.

EDIT: Running on Windows Pro, 64-bit System. Up to date with Windows Updates.

I might have fixed the problem. I went into the Program files and deleted the 3 DLL files. I then uninstalled PI and reinstalled it. I launched it once -  No problem. I launched it a second time - No problem. Maybe the files had become corrupted and were not being replaced with the new installation.

We'll see how it goes.

EDIT: I've relaunched now about 3x and no problem. So I guess some corrupted DLL files.

Hello,
unfortunately this has been Happening to me too. Windows 10 and Pixinsight 1353 - did not happen with any previous versions of Pixinsight.

I've unsinstalled the old versions, deleted DLL files re-installed the app and it continues to happen. The Errors only seem to happen when working with Projects. As soon as I terminate the application with a Project saved, it won't restart. When just working with normal files, the application starts again without an issue.

Please help, it's a bit of a pain having to uninstall the application, deleting the Installation Directory and re-installing the app, every time I work with a Project.

I've installed Version 1352, opened a Project and closed the application again. No issues, so it would seem that something has changed in Version 1353 which corrupts the dll when closing a Project. Hope this helps.

Thank you.

Regards,
Allen

This problem has already been reported a few times. I cannot reproduce it on any of our working and testing machines. The error message 'DLL is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error' means that a module file has been damaged or corrupted. This cannot happen under normal working conditions on any platform.

Check the .dll file in question on the 'C:\Program Files\PixInsight\bin' folder. For example, if it has zero length, then something (a malware or 'file utility' application, or even your operating system behaving erratically) has damaged it. The only solution is running the installer package again to repair the PixInsight installation.

Sorry, but these problems are completely out of my control. All executable files in the PixInsight distribution, including all .dll files, are digitally signed with our EV code signing certificates on Windows and macOS. They are guaranteed to be valid when the application is installed. If they become damaged (because other applications and/or your operating system alter them), that's something I cannot change or control in any way.

Hi Juan,
Thank you for your reply. Build 1352 works just fine, so I‘ll keep that for now and hope that the error does not occur with later builds.
