StarAlignment vs FFTRegistration?
« on: 2017 September 18 12:15:54 »
Can someone please discuss why we might want to use one over the other to register images?

Thank you!

FFTRegistration is broadly applicable to images with large-scale features that need to be aligned. like maybe planetary images or perhaps even terrestrial images.

for "regular" astronomical images with a bunch of stars, StarAlignment is really the only way to go. it's very specialized for that task and includes a whole bunch of features that FFTRegistration does not offer.
