Thought I would clarify how I have been using this noise reduction technique.

1) I use MLT to reduce noise while the data is still linear.
2) I use TGVDenoise to reduce noise after the data is stretched.
3) I use this blurring technique toward the end of the processing to "clean up" the background.

This technique has not replaced the normal noise reduction techniques in my PI workflow.
