Plate solving help
« on: 2017 June 21 12:51:18 »
Good Afternoon,

I am doing a 4 panel mosaic and I have the overlap set to 10%, the plate solve error is usually less than 10 pixels, but I'm not sure what is causing the panels being so mis aligned, mainly vertically as seen on the attached image.

My scope is a refractor operating at 760mm FL. my ccd is a QSI660.

Could someone provide some advice what can be causing this please?

Thank you

Jason

how are you registering these images? do you have distortion correction enabled?

IMO the best thing to do is to use ImageSolver to solve each pane, then use MosaicByCoordinates to generate input images for GradientsMergeMosaic. i'm assuming you're not doing that cause i don't think i've ever seen a misalignment using that method...

Hi Jason,

I can't see anything in the screen capture since it is too small.

You haven't described the method that you are using for making the mosaic. It would be very helpful if you say how are you making it.

In any case, if 10 pixels is the typical error of the plate solve, there must be something that is not well.

Andrés.

i took his statement to mean that during capture the telescope is pointed to within 10 pixel accuracy. given the apparent plate scale here that's probably like 10-15" which should be fine.

but we need more info...
