Using Ha stars in a SHO nonlinear image
« on: 2017 February 19 20:51:24 »
I have some nice data of The Flaming Star Nebula.  The S2 and O3 frames have magenta stars with large halos.  What is the best way (steps) to replace the SHO stars with the Ha stars?

i have never had great success with this due to the need for a perfect star mask. but what has worked for me is to desaturate the magenta using a combination of the ColorSaturation tool and magenta ColorMasks.

Another option is not to create SHO stars in the first place.  Remove the stars from the narrowband masters (star mask and repeated applications of MorphologicalTransformation and removal layers with one of the wavelet processes.)  Create the colour component of your image using the starless data and combine the original Ha with the starless Oiii and Sii to make the luminance.

yeah - if you look at david ault's website he has a pretty good tutorial re: star removal in PI
