what is your strategy to bring out faint stuff in PI?

for photoshop, I've seen this one: http://www.astronomersdoitinthedark.com/Bringing-Out-the-FaintStuff.php

Would you do it differently with PI? How?

If your willing to spend the money, Warren's book, Inside PixInsight gives a nice explanation of the process in one of his workflow walkthroughs.  Also check out the tutorials available at PixInsight.com which cover these techniques as well.
Really, are clear skies, low wind and no moon that much to ask for?
