TGVRestoration and TGVinpaint
« on: 2016 April 06 10:58:00 »
Mars and the planets should be a good opportunity to test TGVRestoration. This is pretty complex tool.
Anyone been able to get good results? I have not seen any tutorials on how to use this.

What is the idea behind TGVinpaint? How do we use it?
We need some examples at least.

Here is the original write up from Carlos on the new TGV modules. http://pixinsight.com/forum/index.php?topic=8970.0

Also here are some examples I did using TGVInpaint. Nothing great but should give you some ideas how I have used it.

For the last link I used a 50 percent gray mask(PixelMath) applied to the image when using TGVInpaint. The star mask is made from the linear image(not stretched) using Statistics as the guide to setting the Mask Preprocessing parameters.

Thanks Mike

Still need some tips with TGVrestoration best practices.  A whole lot sliders there. Planets are up. So does this improve on wavelets or Wiener ?

Sorry Max but I haven't used Restoration yet. I should try it but I don't even use Deconvolution for my shots. Most of my shots are very low resolution so I haven't invested anytime yet.

It Planetary session right now with Jupiter high in the sky and Mars and Saturn following.
That's what I am thinking about.  I have been able to get good results but I suspect I am missing a lot.

Btw, I generally don't do deconvolution on my deep sky stuff either.
