Using Ha image to reduce halos and star sizes
« on: 2015 December 30 07:37:08 »

My RGB frames show prominent small halos. The Ha image of the same object has nice small stars and no halos even when fully streched.

I can reduce the halos somewhat with haRGB methods( NBRGB script etc).
However, the halos are still quite visible after HaRGB combining.

Is there any method which uses the Ha image to fully eliminate these halos. That is, the Ha image fully fills in the data lost in the halo artifact.

HDR combine? Pixel math ?

Thanks

Max

I use HDR Combine all the time with images like the core of M42.  In that case I am using different iteration times but there is no reason it won't work just as well with an Ha image.  You might want to consider creating a synthetic luminance frame using your RGB stacks, then mix that with the Ha.
Really, are clear skies, low wind and no moon that much to ask for?

Essentially I am asking is there a way to truly 'colorize" the Ha data.
Replacing the L with Ha does not achieve the  result you suggest.
 I have tried this.

I tried all usual other HaRGB methods too. The halos remain in the final image but they are not present in the Ha.
