New Previews have STF applied even when parent does not
« on: 2008 September 14 17:27:41 »
Hi Juan,

I'm not sure if this works as intended but it's a bit confusing so I thought I'd mention it here. Steps:

- load an image
- define an STF
- stretch image (optional step)
- disable STF for image
- define a preview
- notice that the STF is enabled for the preview

This is confusing when the image has been stretched and STF isn't needed anymore. Now each time you create a preview you have to unclick the 'STF' tool bar button.
Best,

FWIW, this bug existed some months ago, it wasn't introduced lately.

Right, this isn't new. It took me a while to figure out what was happening and actually taking the time to report it :)

Hi Sander and David,

This isn't a bug. Enabling/disabling an STF (F12) is not the same as resetting it (Ctrl+F12). If you disable the STF for the current view, this doesn't affect the rest of views -present and future- defined in the corresponding image window. STFs and their enable/disable states exist and can be changed on a per-view basis.

When you create a new preview, it inherits the STF from its parent main view. Since STFs are enabled by default, you see its effect immediately on the screen, irrespective of the fact that the main view has its STF disabled.

What you actually want to do is *resetting* the STF of the view, not disabling it. This option is in the same menu: Image > Screen Transfer Function, also available on the image context menu.

Hi Juan,

"Since STFs are enabled by default" right, so that I don't agree with. The new preview should match the main view it came from, including the STF enabled/disabled state. The current behavior is not intuitive.

Agreed. When you're right, you're right :)

I'll change this in the next version: new previews will inherit their parent's enable/disable STF states.

Thank you for pointing this out.

Ok, I can confirm that this is fixed in 1.3. Hurray! Now the problem is that when I make an image of a preview without STF the new image does have STF applied.
