Fedora Pixinight does not launch
« on: 2015 October 11 14:00:15 »
I installed Pixinsight in Fedora 22 using the published procedure.  Terminal said it installed without errors. However,  PI won't launch.

Suggestions

I have the same problem. Fresh instalation of Fedora 22 , succesful instalation of PI, but PI doesn't launch. Terminal message:
error while loading shared libraries: libgstapp-0.10.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
I'll appreciate any advice. Thanks in advance.

My package installed without error. But pressing the Icon nothing happened.

I was able to uninstall the most recent version.  I then installed the prior version from Nov 2014. It started without problems!

I not sure why the most recent version was a dud.

You might want to check posting http://pixinsight.com/forum/index.php?topic=8985.msg57857#msg57857 . Andrea has a link in that posting that might help.

This is simply a lacking package in recent Fedora distributions. When this happens, the "yum provides" command is very useful. For example:

# yum provides libgstapp-0.10.so.0
Loaded plugins: langpacks, nvidia, product-id, subscription-manager
gstreamer-plugins-base-0.10.36-10.el7.i686 : GStreamer streaming media framework base plug-ins
Repo        : rhel-7-workstation-rpms
Matched from:
Provides    : libgstapp-0.10.so.0

This example is with Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.1, but it will work the same way on Fedora. Now that we know which package provides the lacking object that we need, we can simply install it:

# yum install gstreamer-plugins-base

If there are other lacking shared objects you can repeat this process as necessary to find and install them.

Oh well, on Fedora 22 you'll have to replace "yum" with "dnf". Works exactly the same way otherwise.

I am not sure if I have the same problem. The terminal had no messages when I installed the last version of 1.84.
It just won't start.

The Nov 14 version of 1.84 launches fine.
