Creating a new Preview causes PI to lock-up

I've just updated to the latest automatic update and am running PixInsight Core 01.08.04.1170 Ripley (x64). Each time I attempt to create a Preview the program hangs such that I cannot cancel the Preview process or make any other selections. I'm thus forced to halt PI via Task Manager. I've tried this a few times, including the first thing I do after opening a previously saved project, with the same effect each time.
Please advise, if it's me or a bug?

you should update to 1171. I think you may have to download it directly from the software distribution site and not through the automatic update.

Many thanks NGC7789 for your speedy reply. I'll take your advice since I'd noticed references to 1171 but as you mention did not get an automatic update message.
