Sure. I do a lot of Windows installs where I work. Paul Thurrott is the expert on this and will have a very cheap e-book out on Windows 10. I had to roll-back one of the recent installs as it was locking up. This is not yet a finished product and I am not sure it is going to be really finished next month. The older the hardware you have, the worse it appears. If you really want to be informed there is a podcast called "Windows Weekly" but really only for the hard core.
The way to try this out is to join the insiders program which gives you the right to get an iso install disk (costs nothing). You can then burn the disk and make a dual boot system. The How To is well presented in many places online, but basically you clear up some space on your drive and the iso will install there next to your regular install. You are given the choice of OS at boot. This allows you to determine risk-free if the OS will run on your set of hardware. It runs real well on my brand new desktop where I have 8.2 and PI running real fast. It runs less well on older Dell laptops, but that being said it has a smaller footprint than W7 and may have an advantage on marginal hardware.... remember this is also supposed to run on low-cost tablets.
If you are courageous (i.e. out of your mind) you can install the iso over your current OS (7 or 8.1) and it will replace the OS. Your license will be OK (free upgrade). In theory you can also roll this back, but I have not looked into that as all my installs except one are dual boots.
