Downloading Question
« on: 2008 September 27 12:20:45 »
Note: I moved this from General Discussion as it seemed more appropriate here.

Hello,
I am sure, in my usual fasion, I am missing something obvious, but where should I  extract the files to when downloading the files in Windows XP? I saved to the default folder but don't see Pixinsight showing up in my Programs list.
Thanks,
Larry
PS: Haven't imaged for months, but am now awaiting a new camera. Having become enamored of the program throughout the free beta phase, this was certainly the most crucial expense after the cost of the camera itself!

Hi Larry,

Welcome back, and thank you for your support ;)

I assume you have downloaded this file:

PI-win-x86-01.02.05.417-nsi-20080821-c.exe

in case you have a 32-bit Windows version, or:

PI-win-x86_64-01.02.05.417-nsi-20080821-c.exe

if you're running a 64-bit version.

Anyway what you've downloaded is a common Windows installation file -just run it to perform the installation. The time-limited betas were just self-extracting compressed archives, but now we have true installation packages and all :)

Before installing the new version, I recommend you to erase the old beta version, if you still have it, to avoid potential problems. Read the instructions email _completely_, and just follow the instructions.

Tell me if it works well.

Cheers,
Juan

Jack,
I've got a Q453HR from CCD-Labs on order. I want to try one-shot after using an MX716 for several years--my limited time and weather has always limited my ability to gather lots of multi-channel data. Also was anxious to move to a bigger chip--but really did love that camera which I just sold to a student who I think will enjoy getting a start with it.
Still my old scopes--an 8" LX90 SCT and William Optics ZS66SD. Can't wait to try it all out and post some new work--and pester this forum for ideas on how to improve them!
Regards,
Larry
